CONCERT: Ascension of our Lord Choir Christmas Concert

Ascension of our Lord choirOn Sunday, December 1 at 3 pm at Ascension of our Lord Church, 375 Kitchener (corner Sherbrooke), the Ascension of our Lord Choir will present its Christmas concert, Adeste, under the direction of Music Director David Szanto. Works include organ pieces and seasonal music including excerpts from Handel’s Messiah.

Freewill offering. The proceeds will be directed to the church’s Capital Campaign fund.

Musical Director, Bob Bachelor, has selected an array of songs to represent numerous aspects of what the festive season means to one and all. Audiences can expect an eclectic repertoire that includes Jazz, Classical, Pop, and Broadway-style interpretations of holiday music from various parts of the world… in four different languages!

Lyric’s Christmas concerts always include some of Montreal’s most gifted instrumentalists and this year is no different with Sheila Hannigan on cello, Tim Malloch on flute, Robin Best playing the harp, and Peter Colantonio on both percussion and keyboards. Pianist Chad Linsley completes the quintet for an enchanting Candlelight Christmas experience.

Show dates and times: Thursday, December 5 and Friday, December 6 at 8 pm ; Saturday, December 7 at 4 pm ; and Sunday, December 8 at 1:30 pm.

General admission seating – wheelchair accessible.
Tickets: adults $33 / students and seniors $30 / children 12 and under $16

28TH ANNUAL TOY TEA

Toy Tea - WestmountMag.caWednesday, December 11 from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm at Victoria Hall, 4626 Sherbrooke W, it’s the 28th Annual Toy Tea with more than one dozen Montreal school choirs performing throughout the day.

Everyone is welcome to attend. There is no entrance fee, but guests are asked to bring a new, unwrapped, non-violent toy for children aged 13 and under. For teenagers, there is a collection to purchase gift cards at various Montreal stores.

CONCERT: Orpheus Singers – Swing with the Bachs!

orpheus singersOn Saturday, December 14 at 7:30 pm, the Orpheus Singers, perform music that has inspired J.S. Bach at the Church of St. John the Evangelist, 137 Président-Kennedy, Montréal (Métro Place-des-Arts, bus 80).

Johann Sebastian Bach was surrounded by musicians in his family, composers who were models for him. In this program, you’ll hear pieces by his cousins Johann Michael, Johann Ludwig, and Johann Christoph, fine composers in their own right who laid the groundwork on which he built his towering oeuvre.
