Alfie is a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever. As Tollers are, he’s wicked smart, very active, loves to do tricks, and has robust energy when he thinks he’s working. He’s treat motivated (my fault) but without them, we could have never taught him fly ball, agility and nose work games. Lesson #1 is to have high motivating treats — treats that will transcend cats, parrots in cages, and McDonalds french fries. A treat that will motivate your dog to leave a squirrel alone is powerful stuff, and these Homemade Dog Treats trump every store bought treat we’ve ever tried. If you dare, they’re like doggy crack; that’s how devoted Alfie is to them. I could silently open the dog treat container, and he will awaken from doggy dreams, descend the staircase fresh as a daisy and plant his furry butt on the floor next to my feet. What’s nice about making these treats is they don’t require too much trouble to assemble. No special equipment, except for a doggy themed cookie cutter, and any beginner cookie baker can make them.
