Expanded second edition
of Nature near you

Discover the places we pass by every day without even noticing the wealth all around

Following last year’s successful event, Montréal Space for Life is back with a second edition of Nature near you, in collaboration with Hydro-Québec, which is even richer than the first. Not only will the activities in parks and public spaces take place in more than 60 boroughs of Montreal and the greater metropolitan area, but new components will be added to the project.

THREE CREWS, 66 PARKS AND PUBLIC SPACES

Until September 6, three crews from Montréal Space for Life will be out and about in the city and the greater metropolitan area to help you discover the places we pass by every day, sometimes without even noticing the wealth all around.

From Thursday to Sunday, the animation teams will invite you to pay attention to plants, mammals, birds, insects, minerals, atmospheric phenomena and stars in 66 parks and public spaces across Montreal and the greater metropolitan area.

Nature Near You will be at Westmount Park on September 2 and 3.

The works of art in these open-air museums will lend themselves to both scientific observation and poetic inspiration. A great opportunity to reconnect with nature in these true “spaces for life!”

ART, MEDIATOR OF BIODIVERSITY IN OUR NEIGHBORHOODS

In addition to the activities in parks and public spaces, the Nature near you project is innovating once again with two additions to the off-site programming of Montréal Space for Life:

  • The Parc de l’Honorable-George-O’Reilly has been transformed into a mini museum of biodiversity. Do you know what fauna is hiding in and near this park? Come discover and admire some of its typical dwellers in larger-than-life format. The colourful wooden artworks emerge from the landscape to brighten up the park and allow you to discover them in full detail. This exhibition runs until October 31.
  • A biodiversity mural is being created in Hochelaga with ASHOP, a Montreal-based production agency specializing in urban art. The mural, which explores the theme of pollinators, will be available for viewing on Promenade Luc-Larivée, at the corner of Charlemagne Street, starting July 7.
  • Nature Near You will be at Westmount Park on September 2 and 3.

AT A GLANCE

Discover biodiversity in many forms through an open-air exhibition, a mural and free activities in 66 parks or public spaces, all summer long, until September 6.

Due to the pandemic, the sanitary measures in effect everywhere this summer will also be in effect during the Space for Life activities.

ABOUT NATURE NEAR YOU

In the summer of 2020, the Montréal Space for Life team turned the constraints of the pandemic into an opportunity to take its mission outside of its museums and continue to reconnect humans with nature. These opportunities to reconnect are all the more important since many studies demonstrate the health benefits of contact with nature. Given the tremendous success of the experience, it will be renewed this year with enhanced content.
