Following the great success of La compilation – The Mixtape, Opéra de Montréal is pleased to offer, for a limited time, the free webcast of La compilation – The Mixtape, a concert presented on November 21 in front of a packed Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier.
From December 16 to January 2, 2022, people will be able to watch (or re-watch) this unique concert featuring the Atelier lyrique‘s artists-in-residence as well as two great local voices, mezzo-soprano Catherine Daniel (former Atelier resident, 2008-2010) and tenor Éric Laporte (former Atelier resident, 1998-2000), accompanied by the Orchestre Métropolitain, conducted by Jacques Lacombe.

Opéra de Montréal is particularly proud of the enthusiastic response from the audience, which filled Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier for the first time since February 2020. More than 45% of the audience was comprised of young people under the age of 34. In addition, one-third of the audience was attending an opera concert for the first time.

A leading artist residency for Canadian opera singers and pianist-vocalists, the Atelier lyrique is a springboard for professional development at the heart of Opéra de Montréal. Offering innovative, bilingual and tailor-made training that covers the broad spectrum of an opera artist’s development, the Atelier ensures that everyone reaches their full potential by cultivating autonomy, leadership and self-improvement.

During their residency at the Opéra de Montréal, artists benefit from the expertise of seasoned specialists and the guidance necessary to prepare for roles as soloists or understudies. L’Atelier is distinguished by its unique projects, including a clinic with orchestra and various world premiere projects. The Atelier lyrique offers a unique, stimulating and enriching setting in which each artist can explore the many facets of his or her art.
As an artist residency whose mission is to nurture young talents to their full potential, the Atelier lyrique offers innovative and tailored training to its artists thanks to the generosity of our community. In fact, donations to the Opéra de Montréal’s mission allow the artists in residence to attend singing lessons, language classes and orchestra clinics, thus enriching their artistic experience.

Master classes are also offered, where students explore the many facets of opera, accompanied by specialists who, for the most part, came through the Atelier lyrique at the beginning of their careers. La compilation – the Mixtape is a concrete example of outreach and empowerment of artists; it is the very first opportunity for our young artists to take the main stage in a concert, accompanied by an orchestra.
The 2021-2022 cohort is composed of Marc-Antoine Brûlé, tenor (1st year – QC); Vanessa Croome, soprano (3rd year – BC); Sarah Dufresne, soprano (2nd year – ON); Mishael Eusebio, tenor (1st year – ON); Sydney Frodsham, mezzo (2nd year – BC); Kirsten LeBlanc, soprano B.); Kirsten LeBlanc, soprano (Grade 3 – N.B.); Matthew Li, bass (Grade 1 – ON.); Martina Myskohlid, mezzo-soprano (Grade 1 – ON.); Geoffrey Schellenberg, baritone (Grade 2 – B.C.) and Lucie St-Martin, soprano (Grade 2 – QC.).
