60th Anniversary of
Salon Pierre Mon Coiffeur

Staff and clients celebrate anniversary of renown salon in Westmount

By Marilynn Vanderstaay

“No, I never thought when I opened the doors of Pierre Mon Coiffeur I would be sitting here at the 60th anniversary of the salon,” said a dignified 92-year-old Pierre Benoit, founder of Salon Pierre Mon Coiffeur, 4445 Ste-Catherine W, on Thursday evening, September 20.

That evening, four generations of clients jammed into the popular salon to enjoy visiting with Pierre, present owner Josee Asselin and her four stylists, and each other, some of whom may have been at the opening. They toasted Pierre and Josee with champagne and enjoyed sandwiches and hors d’oeuvres prepared literally down the street by Simply Wonderful, 4500 Ste-Catherine W.

… I never thought when I opened the doors of Pierre Mon Coiffeur I would be sitting here at the 60th anniversary of the salon, said a dignified 92-year-old Pierre Benoit…

Lower Westmount is a tight neighbourhood and most of the clients, now many with flowing white hair, live in the perimeters and know each other from local Westmount organizations and businesses. Josee herself lives with her family down the street on Ste. Catherine W. She started working with Pierre because he was local and bought the salon two years later, 33 years ago.

Because it is so close, the evening continued late into the night, well beyond the appointed time. After the last guest had left, Josee and her stylists sat back and just basked in the warmth of good friends, which they are, their clients, and the neighbourhood.
