Shakespeare-Before-the-Show with Geordie Theatre School

This year again, Repercussion is partnering with Geordie Theatre School for pre-show youth workshops

ADVERTORIAL

Montrealers earn their summers. Long cold winters and short days make way for euphoric conditions once gardens bloom and the warmer solstice comes. And every summer, we look forward to our favorite rituals: terraces, BBQs, weekends at the chalet, and the many many festivals.

Shakespeare in the Park – WestmountMag.caOne such seasonal event that delivers the altogether special kind of magic is Repercussion’s Shakespeare-in-the-Park. Blankets out on the grass, with dinner and wine, under the stars, audiences get to experience the power of theatre in nature. There’s nothing quite like it. Repercussion Theatre has been delighting families in all four corners of the GMA now for decades and they return this month with Much Ado About Nothing.

If you’ve been having a hard time pulling your child or teenager away from videogames and Netflix and trying to introduce them to the dramatic arts, this year’s tour has the perfect trick. Geordie Theatre School and Repercussion Theatre are teaming up to engage youth in an exciting part of English culture by leading an Introduction to Shakespeare Workshop before select performances.

“Repercussion is thrilled to be partnering with Geordie Theatre School again this year for our pre-show youth workshops”, says artistic director Amanda Kellock. “Providing opportunities for young people to engage with live theatre is something that both we (Repercussion) and Geordie are passionate about!”

In these workshops youth learn what all the thy, wilt thou, wherefore and forsooths are all about and experience the fun of speaking Shakespearean text! The 2-hour workshops culminate in meeting the cast, asking questions of the director, and participating in a professional pre-show warm-up! Talk about getting behind the scenes.

“Geordie Theatre School is excited to break down the walls around Shakespeare and instill a love of the Bard in Montreal youth from all backgrounds!” Geordie Theatre School director Jessica Abdallah says that “the workshops are affordable, accessible and will be taught by two of Geordie Productions and Repercussion Theatre’s favourite actors.”Bouton S'inscrire à l'infolettre – WestmountMag.caFollowing the workshop participants and their families are encouraged to stay to watch the star-studded production of Much Ado About Nothing.
