ATTENTION: Because of COVID-19 many events are now cancelled or postponed. We have indicated those that are when we receive official notification, but still await news from some organizers. Please contact them for further information.

CALL TO ARTISANS – ARTISANS WESTMOUNT 2020

logo Artisans Westmount - WestmountMag.caThe Westmount Community Events Division is inviting artisans to submit their work for inclusion in the 2020 edition of Artisans Westmount. This event aims to showcase high quality, handmade and functional goods for sale in Victoria Hall the weekend of November 14 and 15.

NEW SELECTION PROCESS
The selection process has been adapted in order to stem the spread of COVID-19. Instead of asking each artisan to bring in samples of their work, the judges will be using the photos included in their applications to make the final selection.
Artisans will be notified of the Jury’s decision in early May.
Participation fee: $125

EXTENDED DEADLINE: All interested artisans are invited to register online by Friday, April 17, 2020.

2020 McEntyre Writing Competition

Peter McEntyre was the Mayor of the City of Westmount from 1969 to 1971. He set up a trust fund to support an annual writing competition to encourage young people to think about the idea of community and to learn more about their own communities.

You may compete if you go to school in Westmount (elementary or secondary, grades 1–11), live in Westmount or are a member of a library in Westmount. This year you are invited to write about what freedom means to you.

EXTENDED DEADLINE: Submit your entry to the Children’s Desk, Westmount Public Library, no later than 9 pm on Friday, April 17, 2020.

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS – SUMMER CONCERT SERIES 2020

Summer Concert Series - WestmountMag.ca

The Westmount Community Events Division is inviting musicians to submit their candidacy for inclusion in the 2020 Summer Concert Series.

This series brings live music to the public in a relaxed outdoor setting and aims to showcase a variety of live music from emerging or professional small jazz ensembles, classical, folk, and pop groups.

Please note that all performers are required to provide their own technical equipment and technician (if required).

EXTENDED DEADLINE: All interested groups are invited to register by Thursday, April 30, 2020.

THE GALLERY AT VICTORIA HALL – CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

Galerie du Victoria Hall - Victoria Hall Gallery – WestmountMag.caThe Westmount Community Events Office invites Westmount artists to send in their proposals for the 2020-2021 exhibitions of the Gallery at Victoria Hall. Emerging or professional artists who are residents or work in an artist studio in Westmount are invited to apply.

Located next to the Westmount Public Library, the Gallery at Victoria Hall presents seven art exhibitions annually, including a community youth art show and a summer group exhibition.

HOW TO APPLY
Please send your complete proposal by email, mail, drop it off in person at the Community Events Office or fill in the online form.

SELECTION PROCESS
Proposals are evaluated by the Gallery Selection Committee which is made up of local artists. Selected artists will be offered a solo, duo, trio or group exhibition in the Gallery at the discretion of the Committee.

EXTENDED DEADLINE: The deadline to apply is Thursday, April 30, 2020.

LUNCHTIME SERIES

The Atwater Library Lunchtime Series features once-a-week presentations by leading writers, musicians, intellectuals, scientists, and many more people sharing their knowledge and experience with the Atwater Library community. Lunchtime Series events usually take place on Thursdays (but sometimes are on other days), from 12:30 to 1:30 pm. Admission is free though donations are appreciated! Everyone is welcome and coffee and biscuits are served.

All lunchtime series events are cancelled for the time being.
