Beauty
A poem by Michael Hawkes
Our tree-lined street is magnificent in the fall.
The red maples’ russet leaves are beautiful
AND
Make me think of passing time and…
And feel a sort of sorrow for…
OR
The maple tree is beautiful
BUT
I know the species is threatened by…
And climate change is killing…
OR
This tree IS BEAUTIFUL
And these trees ARE BEAUTIFUL
AMEN
