Traquen’Art presents the
Festival Suoni per il Popolo
A rich cultural event mixing improvisation, poetry, and world musical tradition
October 18, 2025
On Sunday, November 2, 2025, at La Sala Rossa, Montreal hosts a rare musical event from the series Rencontres de musique actuelle presented by Traquen’Art and the Festival Suoni per il Popolo. This double program with Gordon Grdina — RU’YA – رؤيا and Ghalia Benali brings together two major creations from the international scene that blend tradition, innovation, and contemporary music.
This evening is an invitation to explore music as a universal language, where stories, cultures, and emotions intersect, carried by artists who push the limits of what is possible. RU’YA and EPIGRAPHS offer a sensory and improvised experience unlike any other.
RU’YA – رؤيا: a musical vision without borders
Canadian guitarist and oud player Gordon Grdina presents his project RU’YA — clearvoyance in Arabic — a musical dialogue weaving strong connections between avant-garde jazz, maqâm arabe and Persian music. Invited to dialogue with the captivating voice of Ghalia Benali (Belgium/Tunisia) and five other musicians of diverse origins, RU’YA celebrates poetry as living memory and a space for intercultural dialogue.
EPIGRAPHS: music in perpetual reinvention
Opening the evening, American composer and percussionist based in Montreal John Hollenbeck presents EPIGRAPHS, a suite of compositions continually renewed with each performance, blending written music and improvisation in dynamic and poetic tension. The ensemble of musicians explores a sonic art discovered simultaneously with the audience.
