Talent takes centre stage at McClure Gallery for the VAC’s annual exhibition

Starting April 17, the McClure Gallery of the Visual Arts Centre (VAC) will present its annual exhibition — a much-anticipated event that, for over fifty years, has showcased the creativity and artistic diversity of this landmark Montreal art school. This 2026 edition will bring together more than 100 works created in a wide range of media, including ceramics, jewellery, textiles, drawing, painting, collage, and mixed media.

The winter session creations reflect both a spirit of experimentation and the high-quality teaching offered at the VAC. Several pieces will be for sale, giving visitors the opportunity to support emerging artists while acquiring an original work at an accessible price.

The opening, to be held on Thursday, April 16, from 6 to 8 pm., is one of the most festive moments of the year at the Visual Arts Centre and a unique opportunity to experience the vitality of its artistic community and meet the artists.

Among the special activities, an Art Hive led by Louise Campion, Co‑Coordinator of the McClure Gallery, will take place on Saturday, May 2, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. This free, drop‑in workshop invites participants to explore observational drawing through fun, spontaneous exercises, in an inclusive spirit where everyone is welcomed as an artist — no prior art experience required.

For nearly 80 years, the Visual Arts Centre has pursued its mission of teaching and providing access to the arts. As the largest independent, non‑profit, bilingual art school in Canada, the Centre offers more than 300 courses each year to some 4,000 students, from beginners to practising professionals looking to refine their skills.

The McClure Gallery would like to thank the Conseil des arts de Montréal and the Canada Council for the Arts for their financial support.
