The Government of Canada
must call ADM to order

“Stop Aéroports de Montréal’s abuse of the environment in Montreal’s very last large ecosystem”

October 15, 2025

On October 14, 2025, the Green Coalition Technoparc Team sent an important letter to Prime Minister Carney and Ministers MacKinnon, Guilbeault and Dabrusin, demanding action to stop ADM’s abuse of the environment in Montreal’s very last large ecosystem, as follows:

The Right Honourable Mark Carney
Prime Minister of Canada

The Honourable Steven MacKinnon
Minister of Transport of Canada

The Honourable Steven Guilbeault
Minister of Canadian Culture and Identity
Parks Canada and Quebec Lieutenant

The Honourable Julie Dabrusin
Minister of Environment and Climate Change

October 14, 2025

Dear Prime Minister Carney and Ministers MacKinnon, Guilbeault and Dabrusin:

Green Coalition’s Technoparc Team is distressed and demands your immediate action to stop Aéroports de Montréal’s abuse of the environment in Montreal’s very last large ecosystem, the Technoparc wetlands – 230 hectares of marshes, forest, and meadows.

We draw your attention to the latest breach of environmental norms and protection by the airport authority. ADM has razed to the ground and even removed the topsoil of some 2,500 sq.m. of natural meadow adjacent to the Marais des Sources in order to store construction materials from a demolished fence.

Not only does this deliberate action conflict with the formal commitments made by ADM in the decision of September 29, 2025, issued by the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada (IAAC), but it shows once again ADM’s blatant disregard for the environment and the protection of natural spaces and their biodiversity.

You will certainly recall the public outcry when, overnight in 2022, ADM mowed down 4,000 milkweed plants in the 19-hectare Monarch Field – plants essential for the Monarch Butterfly’s reproduction.

ADM flouts the extremely large constituency that supports the permanent conservation of the whole Technoparc ecosystem: the Montreal Metropolitan Community, the City of Montreal, the City of Dorval, the borough of Saint-Laurent, 25 local boroughs and municipalities, the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke, more than 200 scientists, along with the environmental groups Technoparc Oiseaux, Mères au front, and Green Coalition.

ADM continues to act with casual impunity regarding the environment and the protection of nature on public lands under its 80-year lease with Transport Canada.

Mister Prime Minister Carney and Ministers MacKinnon, Guilbeault and Dabrusin, it is high time the Government of Canada calls Aeroports de Montreal to order. The present situation is totally unacceptable, and we implore you urgently to intervene.

Yours sincerely,

Green Coalition Technoparc Team:
