WestmountMag.ca invites Westmount City Council candidates to present their platform
WestmountMag.ca extended an invitation to all 25 Westmount council candidates and those acclaimed, to provide an article about themselves and their platform on a first supplied, first published basis. Here we present Jonathan Chomski, candidate in District 2.
The articles are reproduced verbatim without corrections.
I’ve called Westmount home for more than 20 years, where my wife and I have raised our three children. For over two decades, I served as Chief Operating Officer of a national student health and benefits organization, supporting university students across Canada. For the past few years, I’ve been working on practical solutions to meet today’s housing needs by developing multi-family residential apartments in areas off the island of Montreal. I’m also a long-time board member of Camp B’nai Brith, founding president of the Limmud Centre, and an everyday walker at the Summit Woods with my two dogs. Beyond work and community, I love the outdoors, travel, and even a bit of off-road Jeeping.
My campaign is built on three core commitments: Your Streets. Your Services. Your Choice.
Your Streets:
Your experience as a resident at the street level.
- Safety: Westmount residents and local businesses have been repeatedly impacted by ongoing disruptions in their neighbourhood. I want to work with the new Council to restore peaceful enjoyment to these areas.
. - Roads and Traffic: Too many roads, sidewalks, and bike paths are in disrepair. As someone who drives, walks, and cycles these streets every day, I know the difference it makes when infrastructure is safe and well-maintained. I am committed to making Westmount’s streets secure and welcoming for everyone.
. - Parks and Green Spaces: Green spaces support both community life and residents’ mental health. Murray Hill Park is a vital community gathering place. While the City has begun work there, I will work to ensure a full revitalization is completed. Summit Woods, while not in District 2, is a beloved community space where neighbours connect, dogs exercise, and residents find daily joy in nature. Like many of our public areas, it needs regular maintenance, thoughtful regulation, and community input to stay accessible, inclusive and welcoming.
Your Services:
Your experience as a resident with city services.
- Tangible services: Westmount residents deserve reliable and responsive services, from garbage collection to snow clearing and beyond. These everyday essentials must consistently meet the needs of residents and adapt as expectations change.
. - Feedback: I will work with City Hall to introduce feedback systems so we can measure how well services are delivered – because you can’t improve what you don’t measure.
. - Resident Focus: Residents should be treated as valued customers of these services, with the same responsiveness and reliability you’d expect from your favourite company. My commitment is to ensure Westmount delivers services that are efficient, transparent, and resident-focused.
Your Choice:
Your experience as a resident choosing your representative.
- It’s up to District 2 residents to decide who they trust to represent them. As councillor, my promise is simple: I will listen, I will respond, and I will always be accountable to you.
