Tango After Dark:
the passion of Argentina

The Great Master of Contemporary Tango, Germán Cornejo, Celebrates the Music of Astor Piazzolla

February 9, 2026

This winter, the great master of contemporary tango, Germán Cornejo, brings his internationally acclaimed production Tango After Dark to Québec. Presented by Show One Productions and GFN Productions, this vibrant celebration of Astor Piazzolla’s music will be performed on March 4, 2026, at the Théâtre du Casino du Lac-Leamy in Gatineau, and on March 5, 6, and 7 at Montréal’s Salle Ludger-Duvernay of the Monument-National.

A true sensory experience, Tango After Dark invites audiences to immerse themselves in a world where every gesture, glance, and silence tells the story of a people and their music.

A remarkable choreographer and performer, Germán Cornejo has established himself as one of the most influential tango artists of his generation. Born in Buenos Aires, he brilliantly embodies the new wave of Argentine tango — one that combines the rigour of the traditional form with an undeniably contemporary stage vision. Crowned World Tango Champion, he has spent the past two decades touring the globe, performing in major cultural capitals such as London, Tokyo, New York, and Paris.

His company, renowned for its technical mastery and artistic refinement, offers with Tango After Dark an immersive experience deeply rooted in the soul of tango porteño. The precision of the choreography, its emotional intensity, and the sensuality of the movement all come together to magnify the music of Astor Piazzolla, the Argentine legend whose work revolutionized the genre in the 20th century.

Where Tradition Meets Innovation

The performance transports audiences to an intimate, nocturnal Buenos Aires — a city where tango becomes a breath, a dialogue between body and heart. Each dance sequence unfolds as a wordless story, guided by the tension between desire, melancholy, and exaltation. Nine internationally acclaimed dancers and exceptional musicians, carefully selected by Cornejo, share the stage in perfect harmony. The haunting voice of a distinguished Argentine tango singer completes this evocative meeting of dance, music, and raw emotion.

At the head of this prestigious ensemble, Germán Cornejo and his partner Noelia Pizzo deliver a performance of rare intensity. The British press has dubbed him The King of Tango, a title that reflects his technical mastery and magnetic stage presence. His work has captivated audiences well beyond the dance world — celebrities such as Simon Cowell, Jennifer Lopez, and Marc Anthony have praised the brilliance and passion he brings to every creation.

Trained at the Aida V. Mastrazzi National School of Classical and Contemporary Dance, Noelia Pizzo has been a leading figure in the tango world for over 15 years. A graduate and scholarship recipient of the Julio Bocca–Ricky Pashkus Foundation, she has built a multifaceted international career, performing in both tango and musical theatre and gracing some of the world’s most prestigious stages. Her career has taken her from Buenos Aires to major international events, including Paris Fashion Week at the Grand Palais, Expo Milano, FITUR in Madrid, and America’s Got Talent. Since 2016, she has served as principal dancer of Germán Cornejo’s company. Together, their artistic chemistry infuses Tango After Dark with exceptional emotional power.

At the heart of Tango After Dark resonates the musical legacy of Astor Piazzolla, the visionary composer who transformed tango in the 1960s. By incorporating elements of jazz and contemporary music, Piazzolla reimagined the traditional genre as an urban, sophisticated, and deeply expressive art form. His work — at once melancholic and fiery — lends the show a cinematic dimension that celebrates the timeless passion of Argentine culture.

‘The precision of the choreography, the dramatic intensity, and the sensuality of the movement come together to magnify the music of Astor Piazzolla, the Argentine legend whose work revolutionized the genre in the 20th century.’

Under Cornejo’s direction, the syncopated rhythm of the bandoneons, the pulsing double basses, and the sensual sound of the violins merge with the choreography to recreate the intimate atmosphere of the milongas — those legendary dance halls where tango still thrives today with the same intensity. Québec audiences will have the opportunity, for the first time, to discover this production already acclaimed in London, New York, and Buenos Aires. A truly sensory experience, Tango After Dark invites spectators to dive into a world where every gesture, glance, and silence tells the story of a people and their music.
