The Quai de l’Horloge will once again be transformed into an epicentre of Afro-descendant cultures

From August 6 to 9, 2026, the Quai de l’Horloge will once again be transformed into an epicentre of Afro-descendant cultures. For its 18th consecutive edition, the AfroMonde Festival invites Montrealers and visitors to four days of music, gastronomy, fashion, and celebration, from noon to 11 p.m., in the heart of the Old Port. Accessible from the Champ-de-Mars and Square-Victoria metro stations, the site is expected to welcome more than 100,000 festivalgoers over the course of the event, confirming its status as Canada’s largest celebration of African heritage.

Pour une 18ᵉ édition consécutive, le Festival AfroMonde invite Montréalais et visiteurs à quatre jours de musique, de gastronomie, de mode et de célébration, de midi à 23 h, au cœur du Vieux-Port.

The festival is rooted in inclusion: general admission is based on a symbolic, eco-friendly contribution of $3.99, and entry remains completely free at all times for children under 12 and for people aged 65 and over. This pricing structure reflects the organizers’ desire to make the event a truly unifying occasion, where families, the simply curious, and culture lovers can mingle freely.

Four days, four atmospheres
The 2026 program is built around four distinct theme days, each with its own artistic flavour:

Thursday, August 6 — Afro Pop
The contemporary Afro-descendant music scene takes center stage, with an evening press cocktail and an inaugural conference marking the official launch of the festival.

Friday, August 7 — Afro Vibes
Groove, electronic music, dance, and immersive performances keep the site buzzing well into the evening.

Saturday, August 8 — Afro Unity
Intercultural dialogue, performing arts, and a dedicated family area come together for a resolutely community-focused day.

Sunday, August 9 — Afro Roots Carnival
A grand finale featuring a parade of cultures, flamboyant costumes, percussion, and a full-on carnival atmosphere.

Beyond the concerts, the Allée des Saveurs offers a true culinary journey through the cuisines of Africa, the Caribbean, and diasporas around the world, complete with artisanal booths, corporate spaces, and the Village des Saveurs. The site also features the Black Forest Stage and the Black Forest Cabaret, an exclusive VIP zone, as well as the AfroMonde Cup, a soccer, basketball, and fitness tournament open to all communities. The most curious visitors will also discover areas dedicated to technology, dance, and fashion, where young creators from the diaspora showcase their collections.

An idea born of the diaspora, 18 years ago

The story of the festival goes back to an idea championed by Agnès Mbome, originally from Cameroon, who wanted to offer cultures of African origin a space worthy of their grandeur, in the very heart of Montreal. This is how the AfroMonde Festival was born, now recognized as the most important Afro-descendant celebration in the country. Mbome notably brought to Montreal the Ngondo, a sacred ancestral ceremony of the peoples of the Wouri River, planting on the banks of the St. Lawrence the roots of a proud and vibrant identity.

“This festival has spent 18 years proving that culture is the primary bridge between peoples. AfroMonde is not an event dedicated to Africa. It is a festival that radiates from Africa,” sums up Agnès Mbome, co-founder and executive director of the AfroMonde Foundation.

A community-driven event

The festival, which relies largely on the commitment of volunteers, is continuing its recruitment for this edition, while organizations interested in taking part as partners or exhibitors can still come forward. The event benefits from the support of Canadian Heritage, the City of Montreal, and Tourisme Montréal, institutional backing that reflects the place AfroMonde now occupies in Montreal’s cultural landscape.

The full program—artists, detailed schedules, and the layout of the various stages—will be announced shortly on the festival’s official website. In the meantime, one thing is certain: for its 18th edition, AfroMonde continues to transform the Old Port into a vibrant crossroads where music, gastronomy, fashion, and memory meet for four decidedly festive days.
