A European quartet at the crossroads of tango and Eastern European gypsy music
On Friday, March 6, at 8 pm, Salle Bourgie welcomes pianist Gerardo Jerez Le Cam and his band, a European quartet at the crossroads of tango and Eastern European gypsy music.
Originally from Buenos Aires, Gerardo Jerez Le Cam became familiar with the sounds of Eastern Europe upon his arrival in France in 1992. Since then, he has been exploring several musical genres by integrating classical music, jazz, gypsy music and traditional African music into a bewitching tango.

As a performer, the Argentine composer and pianist has performed with Gotan Project, Juan Jose Mosalini and Osvaldo Calo, among others. By adding the cymbalom to the traditional tango orchestra, Gerardo Jerez Le Cam founded an atypical tango ensemble and produced an original crossbreeding. He nourishes his musical creation by mixing, among other things, tango, the music of J. S. Bach and the popular music of Romania and Moldavia.
Always on the lookout for new ingredients to enrich his unique musical style, he concocts a brilliant blend from baroque polyphony, contemporary noise music, the rather light, festive and luminous character of gypsy music and the heavier, darker and more powerful side of Argentinean tango. The result of this musical fusion is an original, strong and unique creation: the Balkan tango.
