Bob Bachelor honoured with prestigious choral prize
The Lyric Theatre Singers release another video in their Together From Home series
By Byron Toben
The Montreal Lyric Theatre Singers have been a joy to attend twice a year for their June Broadway and December Holiday concerts, as reported in WestmountMag.ca
Founded 30 years ago by their artistic director, Bob Bachelor, the Lyric Singers, like all performing groups, have had their audiences waylaid by a tiny virus.
However, all is not lost. The indefatigable Mr. Bachelor and the 40 strong vocalists have managed to celebrate their 30th anniversary by providing a set of videos tailored to this streaming age. This resulted in a four-part series called Together From Home. The first three selections feature songs from GodSpell, Aladdin and Fiddler On The Roof.
The fourth instalment, No One is Alone, was just released on October 1, in time for International Music Day. It is a rendition of Stephen Sondheim’s song from the musical Into the Woods.
Coincidentally, Mr. Bachelor was just awarded the prestigious 2020 Jean-Pierre Guindon prize from the Alliance Chorale du Quebec. This annual award is given to a conductor who made a significant positive impact on his ensemble, peers and the Quebec choral community in general.
Congratulations to Bob, the singers, their instrumentalists and many volunteers. Can’t wait to see them in action again come June 2021!
