Repercussion Theatre and Geordie Theatre School bring Shakespeare workshops to parks across Montreal
Summer is finally here and it’s time for kids to hit the outdoors and have some fun! Shakespeare-Before-the-Show is a perfect way for children and teens to experience the joys of theatre in the beauty of Montreal’s parks. Geordie Theatre School (GTS) and Repercussion Theatre are teaming up once again to engage youth in an exciting part of English culture: Shakespeare-in-the-Park! This summer, GTS will be leading an Introduction to Shakespeare Workshop before select performances of Repercussion Theatre’s Measure for Measure.
“Repercussion is thrilled to be partnering with Geordie Theatre School again this year for our pre-show youth workshops”, says artistic director Amanda Kellock. “Providing opportunities for young people to engage with live theatre is something that both we (Repercussion) and Geordie are passionate about!”
This summer, GTS will be leading an Introduction to Shakespeare Workshop before select performances of Repercussion Theatre’s Measure for Measure.
In these workshops, youth will learn what all the thy, wilt thou, wherefore and forsooths are all about and experience the fun of speaking Shakespearean text! The 2-hour workshops culminate in meeting the cast, asking questions to the director, and participating in a professional pre-show warm-up!
“Geordie Theatre School is excited for youth from all backgrounds to join us in jumping into the passion, play and drama of Shakespeare!” Geordie Theatre School director Jessica Abdallah says that “the workshops are affordable, accessible and will be taught by some of Geordie Theatre and Repercussion Theatre’s favourite performers.”
