Montreal Baroque Festival
A vibrant celebration of music where echoes of the earth resonate in Old Montreal
Edited, June 4, 2025
The Montreal Baroque Festival unveils its 23rd edition, a musical celebration that will transform the heart of downtown from June 19 to 22, 2025, into a veritable open-air theatre. Under the evocative theme Echo of the Earth, this edition promises 14 concerts and 7 free activities that weave a poetic dialogue between terrestrial beauty and celestial harmonies.
A Sonic Alchemy Between Tradition and Modernity
This year, the Festival orchestrates a fascinating dialogue between eras: the timeless masterpieces of Bach, Telemann, and Vivaldi sit alongside romantic works performed on period instruments, while Arabic, Persian, and Turkish melodies bring their oriental colours. A surprising incursion into the electronic universe completes this audacious sonic mosaic.
From June 19 to 22, the century-old stones of Old Montreal will vibrate to the rhythm of this exceptional musical adventure.
More than 20 Quebec soloists and ensembles will take the stage, joined by the prestigious Spanish ensemble Harmonia del Parnàs. The concerts will take place in emblematic Old Montreal venues: Notre-Dame-de-Bonsecours Chapel, Bonsecours Market, and the D’Youville Pumping Station at the Pointe-à-Callière Museum.

When Cultures Meet
The flagship event of this edition lies in the Montreal premiere of Les grands espaces, an innovative work by composer Katia Makdissi-Warren. This exceptional free concert brings together in one performance children’s choirs, throat singer Louisa Qaurriataiytuk (Puvirnituq, Nunavik), Vincent Lauzer on recorder, the participating audience, and conductor Johanne Couture. An immersive experience that perfectly illustrates the festival’s spirit of openness.

About Montreal Baroque Festival
Since 2002, the Montreal Baroque Festival has established itself as an international reference in period instrument performance. Under the artistic direction of Matthias Maute and Vincent Lauzer, it cultivates a unique philosophy: bringing together established artists and emerging young talents, transforming Montreal’s historic venues into living showcases for early music from all traditions.
This 23rd edition promises once again to reveal all the modernity of early music, proving that yesterday’s most beautiful melodies continue to resonate with striking relevance in our contemporary era.
