The Films of Our Life
at Théâtre Outremont
Roland Smith and 20 personalities present their favourite films
From August 2 through September 2, a celebration of film will take place at Théâtre Outremont in collaboration with Roland Smith, former Théâtre Outremont owner and current film distributor. Forty favourite films of twenty personalities from the world of communications in Quebec will be shown during Les films de notre vie / The Films of Our Life, a sequel to Les films de ma vie/The Films of My Life, which welcomed thousands of enthusiastic film lovers last year.
The Films of Our Life, whose spokesperson is Rock Demers, will be showing films rarely seen on the big screen today. Most of the 20 personalities who have selected the films will introduce them before the screening. The Films of Our Life gathers well-known classics with significant yet lesser-known films that organizers hope to introduce to new audiences.
These are popular films with great artistic value… rare jewels, masterpieces by major auteurs… which means quality is guaranteed.
In addition to Rock Demers, contributors include Denise Bombardier, Denis Bouchard, Bill Brownstein, Fabienne Colas, Marc-André Forcier, Mario Fortin, Yves Jacques, Jean-François Lamarche, Marc Lamothe, Vincent Leclerc, Jean-Claude Lord, Marc-André Lussier, Mouffe, Franco Nuovo, Pierre Karl Péladeau, Théodore Pellerin, Georges Privet, Gilbert Sicotte and Odile Tremblay. Roland Smith has also chosen more than a dozen films to complete the program.
The films screened, in order of appearance, will include A Woman Under the Influence by John Cassavetes, starring the incomparable Gena Rowlands, which will kick off the event. Also featured are works by directors George Lucas, Ang Lee, Elio Petri, Jacques Demy, Jerome Robbins and Robert Wise, Michel Brault, Bernardo Bertolucci, Agnès Varda, André Brassard, Victor Fleming, Francis Ford Coppola, Jane Campion, Břetislav Pojar, Arthur Penn, François Truffaut, Sébastien Chabot, Charlie Chaplin, Rodrigo H.
