Momedy Comedy at the Cummings Centre
Three-part series explores Jewish women in comedy
By Byron Toben
The recent Just For Laughs Festival included a sizable number of male Jewish stand up comics.

Irene Angelico
To balance that, the Cummings Centre is presenting Momedy Comedy, a three-part series of two hours each, showing clips of TV and film segments of the many famous funny Jewish women from stage and TV. This will include Fanny Brice, Gertrude Berg, Joan Rivers, Gilda Radner, Amy Schumer, Debra Messing, and more.
The moderator will be the indefatigable Irene Lilienheim Angelico. A film documentarian, Ms. Angelico is well known for many films produced by her and husband Abby Neidick, including Dark Lullabies. Here’s a link to my now closed Rover Arts review.
Some of their other productions have studied Cola drinks and the coffee industry. Their current works in progress include Reaching for Zion and The First to Stand.
Viewers may remember that Fanny Brice was the subject of the hit musical Funny Girl, revived at the Segal Centre in October 2015.
