Perched in an enchanting natural setting near Lake Saint-Victor, the Résidence du Hâle stands harmoniously within the forested landscape of the Laurentians. Designed to provide a perfect balance between modern comfort and immersion in nature, the house features an architecture that is both understated and elegant, becoming a true family haven where nature and architecture blend in perfect harmony.
Inspired by clean lines and a gabled structure, the silhouette of the house combines the classic with the contemporary. The architecture follows the contours of the site, utilizing the elevations to provide spectacular views while respecting the privacy of each living space. It embodies the spirit of transmission, where past and present meet, and where every architectural detail reflects the connections that unite this family.
The volumes and noble materials delicately integrate into their environment, in constant dialogue with the natural elements — the rock, the trees, and their canopy. The hâle, this wind from the north and east that dries out plants and soil, becomes a structuring presence here, influencing the layout and materiality of the spaces. Carrying strength and character, it inspires robust architectural forms and resilient materials that become one with their surroundings.
The chosen materials, particularly the light wood of the façades and the grey stone at the base of the structure, reinforce the natural grounding of the home while adding a touch of warmth and rusticity. The black metal roof with clean lines contrasts with the natural tones of the façade, adding a contemporary touch.
The terraces and outdoor spaces are designed to fully enjoy the landscape, allowing residents to live in harmony with nature throughout the year. They provide an ideal space for relaxation while admiring the changing colours of the seasons. The interior layout is designed to maximize natural light, creating bright and warm indoor spaces. The large bay windows and unobstructed views connect each interior space to the surrounding landscapes, ensuring visual and sensory continuity with nature. The indoor spaces are designed for comfort and conviviality, featuring smooth circulation and generous volumes that create an atmosphere that is both soothing and welcoming.
The natural stone fireplaces serve as warm focal points in the living spaces, reinforcing the connection with the wooded site. The raw and timeless stone mantels evoke the textures and colours of the surrounding landscape. They add character and robustness to the spaces while complementing the large glass openings and abundant natural light, creating harmony between the interior and exterior.
The sunroom is designed as a bright sanctuary, oriented to the south; it is the ideal place to relax and enjoy the rhythm of the seasons while being sheltered from the elements. With its very large windows and glass doors, it creates a seamless connection between the inside and outside, offering an unobstructed view of the deciduous woods while allowing sunlight to flood the space with natural warmth.
About Atelier BOOMTOWN
Atelier BOOMTOWN offers a reinterpretation of residential building architecture by working with space, light, and materials, based on the original principles of Boomtown-style buildings created on the outskirts of factories and industries in mining towns in the early 20th century. These buildings were distinguished by their simple façades, square volumes, and flat roofs, an innovation at the time. Today, the simplicity and efficiency of these creations inspire the design of contemporary projects that, through their architecture as innovative as it is contextual, enhance their environment and the experience of their users.
