October 23, 2023
Traquen’Art is proud to present two of today’s flamenco geniuses, Israel Fernández and Diego del Morao, performing at Club Soda for the first time in Canada, on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at 8 pm. Accompanied by two palmeros, they will present the fruit of their first collaborations, Amor, a debut album released in 2020, and Pura Sangre, released in May 2023.
Charisma, talent and freshness characterize this emblematic duo in the world of flamenco.
Charisma, talent and freshness characterize this emblematic duo in the world of flamenco. They combine their exceptional talents to weave an intense musical web, exploring the depths of gypsy culture, love, nature and human values through music, while transcending the boundaries of flamenco aesthetics, trends and cultural references.
The fiery voice of flamenco nuevo
Born in Toledo, Israel Fernández is one of the leading figures in contemporary flamenco. His voice, rich in nuance, embodies both flamenco traditions and the nuevo movement, which combines anguish, spirit and the gypsy universe with tempo, gentleness and musicality.
His talent has been recognized by such illustrious masters as Chano Domínguez, Richard Bona, Bobby McFerrin, Farruquito and Sara Baras. With five albums to his credit, the cantaor is now considered one of the great hopes for the future of this musical genre. In 2020, Fernández made his mark with the album Amor.
Amor, produced in collaboration with Diego Del Morao, quickly became one of Spain’s best-selling albums. At the Odeón 2021 Awards, Israel was named Flamenco Revelation of the Year, and the album Amor won in the Best Flamenco Album category.
At the age of 34, Israel Fernández is ready not only to be the best flamenco singer of his generation but also to take the art form across borders – both geographical and social. His documentary, Canto porque tengo que vivir (2020), won the Audience Award at Barcelona’s In-Edit Festival.
Diego del Morao, undisputed master
of contemporary flamenco guitar
A native of Jerez de la Frontera in Andalusia, Diego del Morao is widely recognized as one of the finest flamenco guitarists of our time. The son of Moraíto Chico, he belongs to one of the most important guitar sagas in recent flamenco history. His genius as an artist, his unique sense of rhythm and his inexhaustible creativity make him a true guitar wizard. He has brilliantly created a distinctive, personal style, just as legends such as Paco de Lucia and Vicente Amigo have done.
As the guitarist of choice for artists such as Diego El Cigala, Niña Pastori, José Mercé, Marina Heredia, Duquende, Antonio Reyes and many others, his music is featured on numerous recordings by artists who seek his expertise. The unique Paco de Lucía himself asked him to accompany La Tana on the album Tú, ven a mí, which he produced for the Sevillian singer in 2006.
Diego del Morao has also collaborated and shared the stage with legends such as Chick Corea, Fito Páez and Bebo Valdés.
So it’s hardly surprising that the master among masters, Paco de Lucia, has publicly confessed his deep respect for Diego.
